Personal profile

I'm a Consultant Psychiatrist specialised in management of mental health problems in adults and older adults (dual training). I am a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) since February 2013.

My main interests in psychiatry are neuropsychiatric disorders, epidemiology of mental illness, neurodevelopmental disorders (adult ADHD and autism) and physical health in mental illness.

I'm also interested in cultural aspects of psychiatry and the management of mental health problems in refugees and people exposed to trauma during conflict and war.

I'm involved in research projects and published several papers on the epidemiology of psychosis in East Anglia (SEPEA study: http://www.sepea.org/).

I'm also involved in teaching medical students during their placement in Psychiatry.

I use social media to educate the public (especially from Arabic speaking countries) on mental health. My Facebook page (@arabpsychiatry) has more than 7k followers and I produce educational videos regularly on various mental health topics published on my YouTube Channel (ttps://www.facebook.com/arabpsychiatry)

I'm originally from Iraq and living in East Anglia, England.
