Biography

Zoe Jones is a Higher Education Learning Developer who has been working alongside students at UEA since 2010. She is part of the Learning Enhancement Team, holding the title of Learning Enhancement Tutor for Widening Participation

Zoe began teaching and supporting students in 1996. She taught English in Japan, Brighton and London before coming to work at UEA.

She holds specialist qualifications in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Adult Literacy. As a British Dyslexia Association accredited FE/HE Specialist Tutor, she is able to work with students with Specific Learning Differences which affect literacy, and has completed specialist training to support students with ADHD and ASC. Completing the taught element of the professional Doctorate in Education has given her an in-depth understanding of research methods and the ethics process at this level. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy

Drawing on her personal experience, as well as her professional expertise, Zoe's passion is helping students to develop their understanding of the requirements of studying in Higher Education. She works with students of all backgrounds and disciplines to help them find tailored, effective study  techniques and ways to enhance their academic writing. Her support is delivered through embedded workshops that are part of students' taught programmes, one-to-one tutorials and regular drop-ins held at central locations on campus. The aim is to empower students to engage with their studies with confidence, ensuring they reach their potential, no matter what barriers they will navigate along the way. Her practice has a strong focus on inclusivity and accessibility, designed to foster a sense of belonging and self-efficacy. She values the contribution she is able to make as her team's point of contact for the University of Sanctuary project

Zoe has shared insights into her practice by writing for publication and presenting at internal and external conferences. She was delighted to be nominated as Inclusivity Champion at the Students' Union's Transforming Education Awards in 2025.
