Abstract
This article notes and examines certain parallels between two celebrated passages in "A Farewell to Arms", Ernest Hemingway's novel about the Italian Front, and a passage in "With British Guns in Italy", Hugh Dalton's book about his time as an artillery officer on the Italian front.
