Abstract

In this article we present a reference framework for the integration of formulaic expressions in French as a Second Language. We examine how the Lexical Approach or L2 teaching/learning through formulaic expressions conceptualised by Lewis (1993) and other researchers can be transposed in French as a Second Language, as well as the research which underlies this approach. We describe four theoretical and methodological approaches which are distinct, albeit complementary. Different types of formulaic expressions (collocations, idioms, etc.) are discussed as well as different principles for their selection(frequency, utility, fixedness and transparency).
