Abstract

The access of multimedia applications completely changed the way of trendy methods of using internet services due to availability of high-bandwidth and multimedia enabled widgets. The users access real-time services in parallel to other web-based services, which includes email, web browsing and downloading. The multimedia services, specifically streaming of video service attracted a tremendous growth from the users. The streaming requires high-bandwidth as compared to other web-based applications. The compression techniques are used to encode videos to meet the user’s needs. In this paper, the video encoded with moving pictures experts group (MPEG-4) compression is transmitted with background traffic. The comparative analysis is performed by measuring network behaviour and application level values. The packet loss, average delay and throughput show network values. The video quality is analysed using peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) method and mean opinion score (MOS) scale. The results show different network values and video quality while transmitting video and background traffic.
