    Abstract

Three D:A friedo-oleanane triterpenes have been isolated from the bark of Phyllobotryon spathulatum. They were characterized by the use of Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Coherence NMR spectroscopy as the known compound odolactone (3-oxo-D:A-friedo-oleanan-27,15α- lactone), and two novel friedo-oleananes, 3β-hydroxy-D:A-friedo-oleanan-27,29-dioic acid (structure confirmed by X-ray analysis of the dimethyl ester) and methyl-3-oxo-19β,21β-dihydroxy-30-nor-D:A-friedo-olean-20(29)-en-27-carboxylate.
