Abstract
As a registered midwife, I can find myself working with people at times of utmost joy as well as of utter tragedy. The profound sense of awe experienced at all the potential held within new life as a person comes into the world is what first attracted me to the profession, although these days, I probably gain the greatest satisfaction from using my advanced communication and problem-solving skills in complex situations. THEORY: emotional labour in healthcare.
