Abstract
The largest and most comprehensive exhibition about Fiji ever assembled (Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, UEA, 15 Oct 2016 - 12 Feb 2017; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, LA, 15 Dec 2019 - 2 May 2021). It displayed over 270 works of art, including European paintings and historic photographs, loaned by exhibition partner the Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology at Cambridge, and by other museums including Fiji Museum, the British Museum, the Pitt Rivers Museum (Oxford), the Smithsonian Institution and museums in Aberdeen, Birmingham, Exeter, London, Maidstone and Salem Massachusetts. This exhibition resulted from a 3-year Arts & Humanities Research Council-funded project which examined the extensive but little-known Fijian collections in the UK and overseas. The exhibition at UEA was opened by the HE President of Fiji and visited by HM The Queen; in Los Angeles was opened by the Fiji Prime Minister.
