N2 - The NHS is in the midst of a chronic workforce crisis resulting in a cycle of mounting pressures and poor retention. Many countries have sought to develop more cost-effective and sustainable models of health care by educating and employing healthcare personnel with generalist medical skills. In the UK, such roles include physician associates (PAs), advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) and advanced clinical practitioners (ACPs). The aim was to deliver cost-effective care and make a positive contribution to patient outcomes.
