Abstract

This paper attempts to fill two gaps left by the existing literature on energy matters. First, an international comparison of energy technologies hopefully identifies similarities and differences in the patterns of intensity of energy usage across countries. Second, and perhaps more important, calculations are made to discover what impact recent developments in energy supply have had on the intensity of use of different fuels in UK industry. Though subject to various limitations, the adoption of an input-output approach can yield some very valuable information on which to base future research and policy decisions.
