Abstract
Long-term ethnographic research into the intersections between precarity, vulnerability and linguistic interaction. Using the case of the advice encounter, within migrant advice groups in Great Yarmouth, UK.
On the one hand, traditional precarities (social, economic, political, etc.) have significant effects on encounters between migrant-clients and advisors. On the other hand, linguistic encounters entail their own vulnerabilities, that contribute to the wider experience of precarious life among migrant communities. This research aims to bridge this gap, introducing language into academic debates on precarity and re-introducing everyday linguistic interactions as deeply social, material phenomena.
