Abstract

The authors ask some important questions and make one or two apparently outrageous comments. They then outline how they have come to these conclusions and sketch what they believe are the consequences for this type of numerical modelling. Their first comment is probably perfectly obvious and highlights a strength of the technique. One of the wonderful features about transmission line matrix modelling (TLMM) is the fact that one can forget about transmission lines (most of the time). The rules for TLMM of heat flow in homogeneous linear material are simple. There is in fact only the scattering rule, since the mesh forces the subsequent connect process. The scattering coefficients are determined by the transmission line network
