Abstract

Human motivation has been examined prodigiously for many decades in the scientific literature, grounded in multiple theoretical perspectives. The energisation, direction, and regulation of behavior within sport, exercise and physical activity contexts has also been afforded extensive theoretical and empirical attention. The purpose of this special issue was to showcase important contemporary contributions in the field that reveal insights into new and understudied questions and that provide impetus for future research.

This issue contains ten articles ranging from motivation in the contexts of school physical education, physical activity, sport and coaching behaviours to sport volunteers.
