Abstract
This article sketches out some of the terrain on which the policing of protest has taken place over the past year, and offers some insights. It is in three main parts: an outline of the legal restrictions on 'gatherings'; a critique of those rules; and an evaluation of some of the key policing aspects, decisions and tensions.
