Abstract
Gullies of the 'arroyo' form have been found in parts of Rhodesia and are studied here. The article briefly outlines their principal erosional features, their causes and consequences, and an assessment of the severity of rates of erosion is given. In the Umsweswe valley sheet erosion occurs at four times the rate of gully erosion and a figure of l.9 tonnes/ha was obtained in the area examined.
