Abstract

For the Romantics, literary criticism was an essential element in their expression and a means of examining questions of taste, tradition and innovation. This is a selection of critical documents which elucidate the work and ideas of the leading Romantic poets, writers and critics. The extracts are supported by background notes and an introductory essay examines the background and ideas behind the writings.
