RSSI and throughput evaluation of an LTE system using a distributed MIMO antenna with a site specific channel propagation model

Abstract

Mobile communications has become an everyday commodity. In the last decades, it has evolved from being an expensive technology for a few selected individuals to today's ubiquitous systems used by a majority of the world's population. This paper considers the propagation properties of a LTE channel operating at 1800 MHz through a site specific urban landscape. A simple vertically polarised linear dipole array is used to represent the base station transmit antenna at four specified locations, whilst the receiver unit is assumed to be a moving target, with a speed of 30kmh-1. The results were characterised in terms of the received signal strength, and the throughput were collected and discussed, and interpreted in terms of the multipath environment, and MIMO system behaviour, leading to some general recommendations.
