Abstract
The importance of surveys in health services research, particularly in pharmacy practice, is highlighted in this chapter. There must be systematic application of methods and consideration of underpinning theories throughout all steps in conducting survey-based research. This chapter provides a summary of key theories and how they are applied to survey methods in pharmacy practice. The chapter starts with a brief overview of the scope of surveys and associated study designs used in pharmacy practice, followed by a comprehensive explanation of the process of designing new questionnaires, questionnaire validation, data collection methods, data analysis, informed consent, and ethical considerations. Next, the chapter delves into quality-of-life surveys, their use in pharmacy practice, and the psychometric assessment process (validity and reliability). Finally, the chapter covers preference-based surveys in pharmacy practice, providing a general overview and methods and steps for conducting discrete choice experiments to assist readers in improving their skills and making a valuable contribution to the field of pharmacy practice and science.
