N2 - The hydrothermal reaction between 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (trimesic acid, H3BTC) and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (BPE), in the presence of cadmium(II) ions, results in the formation of a novel layered salt, in which the organic cations and water molecules occupy spaces between anionic layers of trimesic acid.
