Abstract

Crystalline [Mg(CH₂SiMe₃)(µ³-OCH₂SiMe₃)]₄ has been identified as the product of oxidation of ClMgCH₂SiMe₃ with traces of O₂. Its formation requires the formation of Mg(CH₂SiMe₃)₂ via the Schlenk equilibrium. The compound is a rare example of a structurally characterized magnesium alkyl alkoxide with Mg₄O₄ cubane structure.
