Abstract
Provides a brief overview of trends and policies underlying the Indonesian "success story' of rice production in the 1970s and 1980s and examines key issues of future policy emerging towards the end of the 1980s. It suggests policy adjustments required for Indonesia broadly to maintain rice self-sufficiency, at stable real rice prices, while reducing the government budgetary costs of rice market interventions. -Author
