Abstract
Therapeutic communication is central to effective mental health nursing, enabling nurses to build trust, engage with patients’ experiences and support psychological healing. Rooted in Buddhist philosophy, the seven factors of enlightenment offer a conceptual framework to enhance therapeutic communication in psychiatric settings. The article explores each factor's relevance to the emotional, cognitive and interpersonal aspects of mental health care, and discusses ways to integrate them into nursing practice. The seven principles can deepen relational attunement, support emotional regulation and promote compassionate, person-centred care.
