The traumatised practitioner: Self-awareness, supervision and refective practice

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Part of my role is to carry out assessments with people who are at risk due to their mental health before they are referred into secondary services. On the whole, since overcoming the anxiety of being newly qualified and making it through those first 12 months, I have not struggled to keep my personal and professional lives separate. There were though, two occasions, where I was profoundly affected by other people's experiences. In the first situation, I anticipated my reaction, while in the second, I was caught by surprise.
